Worship Service: Love and Friendship
Love & Friendship
This time of year is intent on convincing us that Hallmark romance is the ultimate expression of love and fulfillment. While romantic love can be wonderful, there is something very special about the love that can arise from our platonic friendships. But while there is plenty of advice out there for finding and sustaining romance, not so much for friendships. How might we approach making friends, and nurturing these relationships into deep, sustaining connections? It turns out that this must be an intentional, counter-cultural and even spiritual practice. We will draw on Erich Fromm’s book The Art of Loving, as well as our own UU values and culture to support our exploration of the importance of loving friendship.
