Welcome! We’re so glad you found us! Find out a little more about us, and what to expect at UUFO below:
Sunday Programming
Our Sunday service begins at 10:30am is an hour long. Most services are designed for adults, but some are more multi-generational, and engaging for all ages. Children are always welcome to attend with their parents, and our Children’s Nest is available at the side of the Sanctuary for any who would like to draw, fidget, or puzzle while the service unfolds.
The worship service is followed by Coffee Hour, an opportunity for connect over refreshments and conversation.
Occasionally discussions with guest speakers, meetings, or special projects, such as letter writing campaigns are scheduled during coffee hour. Approximately once every two months, we invite everyone to stay for a potluck lunch!
As Unitarians, we do not have a dogma or creed that we believe or follow. We have Eight Principles that we strive to consciously live by.
Our values, as outlined in our UU Principles include Justice, Interdependence, Equity, Generosity, Pluralism, and Transformation. We are a welcoming congregation for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, we are climate-conscious, we work towards reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous communities, and we strive to alleviate suffering through our refugee support initiatives.
Unitarian Universalism is a non-dogmatic liberal faith movement. As UUs we covenant to promote our Eight Principles, and create a welcoming community where members with diverse beliefs can come together to nurture meaning, hope, and reverence for the earth as we pursue a more just and compassionate world.
The flaming chalice is the religious symbol for Unitarian Universalism. We practice the shared tradition of lighting the flame of the chalice at the beginning of each worship service, uniting us in worship, and symbolizing the spirit of our work. For a more complete history and explanation of the flaming chalice symbol, click here.
We do not currently have a separate Children’s Program, but children are always welcome in the Sanctuary, and we set up a Children’s Nest each week with quiet activities to occupy any younger attendees who don’t want to sit in a chair for the whole service. Parents, grandparents, and anyone with children in their lives are also invited to sign up for our Family Fun email newsletter!
Yes!
Oui!
Affirming the worth and dignity of every person is one of our eight principles. We welcome people of all races, ages, gender, sexual orientation, and abilities.
We are delighted when newcomers find something here that resonates, and want to deepen those connections. As a lay-led congregation, volunteers are at the heart of our shared community, but we know it can be daunting to get involved with a new place! One simple way to dip your toe into contributing to life at UUFO is to join a Program Support Team, the folks who help set up our Sanctuary for Sunday services, and prepare refreshments at coffee hour. If you like to sing, you could also arrive a little early on Sunday morning to join the Songsters, our informal choir, who rehearse the morning’s songs from 9:30 to 10am before the service begins at 10:30am.
