Inner Resonance: A Deaf Person’s Journey
Find out more about a Deaf person’s way of life, their journey, and the communication barriers that many Deaf people face in a hearing society. Learn about a Deaf person’s birth right to sign language, the Deaf experience, as well as tips for enhancing visual communication.
Denise DeShaw lives in Ottawa with her husband and their two children, who are now at university. She is currently a Sign Language Institute of Canada (SLIC) certified American Sign Language (ASL) instructor, and teaches ASL classes full-time at Carleton University. She is also the program coordinator there. Currently, Denise holds the position of ASL Teachers of Ontario (ASLTO) Director for the Ontario Cultural Society of the Deaf (OCSD). Among her responsibilities are managing and providing ASL-related training workshops for Deaf ASL instructors in the province. In her spare time, Denise enjoys painting, snowshoeing, camping, and long walks with her family and dogs.
